We had to do this before with all the others kids, and figured no biggie, because their results ended up fine.
So, the next day we got ready for the day, sent the kids to school and headed back to the hospital for more blood work to get done. We called the hospital to get the results after waiting for 2 hours, only to find out she was still high at 13.8. We then called the pediatrician who said that we needed to take her back in 2 more days first thing in the morning. (Generally the bilirubon rises and then falls after a certain amount of days.)
Today I got up on time, got ready early and brought the kids to school and then came to the hospital to get Sadie's blood work done, again. I didn't even have to wait for a full 2 hours for the pediatrician to call us and say we needed to take her into the hospital for phototherapy. She was now at 21.
We got settled in the Pediatric hospital room and they did more blood work on her before I could even cuddle and feed her. She didn't eat much either because she was crying from all the blood they were getting from her sore little heel.
After eating and falling asleep in my arms, I put her under the lights.
They say her high bilirubon could be contributed to our incompatible blood types. I'm O negative and she's A negative. (sorry Sadie!)
Generally I'm a strong person, but with these stupid hormones lingering around, and Sadie being only 4 days old. It's emotionally draining.
More blood work is being done this evening and then we'll continue with the lights until tomorrow morning. I know it's going to be a L.O.N.G. night.
I was able to hold her around 3:30 pm to feed her. But that was it. After she finished eating I had to put her under the lights again. That wasn't easy. She didn't want to be put back down. She squirmed and whined and all I could do was put my hand on her and try to calm her down.
At least I can look forward to feeding time.
Here's hoping her next blood work shows the lights are working!

I'm so sorry Nicole! I know how you feel. My youngest 3 all had to have the lights and I cried and cried because I just wanted to cuddle them. Hope her #'s go down fast. Colesons were high for 10 days! Man that was hard!
Good luck Nicole. It is draining enough those first days with out having the added stress. Avery's was a little high, but they just checked her with some type of light and it came back fine. BTW... I'm O negative too!
