We decided that it was time to take the kids to the Arches, so over UEA weekend, we did! Devin has never been either.
We found us a backpack for Chloe on KSL.com for only $15.00, so we bought it knowing she wouldn't hike as well as everyone else. What a deal and a lifesaver!
We left Thursday afternoon, picked up my sister and her son Kyler so they could come down with us a day early. (Her boyfriend and his kids weren't able to come down until Friday.)
Many bathroom breaks and 3 and a half hours later, we finally made it to Moab. Once we got there, we decided to drive through Moab to go to the Hole N'' the Rock. We took the tour, bought souvenirs, took pictures, and enjoyed the beautiful weather. It was a lot of fun.
The Hole N'' The Rock, not to be confused with the Hole In the Rock by Lake Powell. lol. You go into that little trailer looking thing, which is the gift shop, and then inside that rock is an actual house that a couple lived in before passing away. It really is cool!
Before heading back to our hotel room, we stopped at a regular spot of ours and did some lizard catching. Chloe had a blast, and each kid came back to the hotel with a lizard to play with over the duration of our trip.
Chloe wasn't afraid to hold the lizards either. lol.
The hotel room we stayed in had a fridge and kitchen, so we went to the store that evening to buy groceries. Decided to save money and have cereal and sandwiches for lunches instead of eating out.
The next day we headed to Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point State Park. The overview was amazing at Dead Horse Point. So pretty.
The overlook at Dead Horse Point. That's the Colorado River in the background. We also found a geocache at Dead Horse Point.
The part of Canyonlands that we went to wasn't where I originally wanted to go, we actually wanted to go to the Needles District, but nevertheless, the scenery was beautiful and the kids had fun hiking and sightseeing.
Hiking on Whale Rock the kids decided to be a little silly and lay in a hole on the top. lol.
Afterwords we drove back down into Moab to go see the Petroglyphs. The kids thought that was pretty cool. Because they thought this was neat, we're going to go to Arizona to the Cliff Dwellings. So cool!
The Petroglyphs in Moab
The Cliff Dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park in Arizona where I want to go next with the family. Want to join us?
Myy mom and her friend Brian came down to Moab too and camped, and invited us on Friday night and Saturday night to barbecue with them, a definitely yes to save even more money! So after the Petroglyphs we had a barbecue with them. Hamburgers, yum!
The next day, Saturday, was Madison's birthday and she was so excited to be able to go to the Arches on her birthday. My mom and her friend came with us too. My sister and her boyfriend and their kids did other activities since they had been to the Arches a couple months prior.
We stopped in the Visitor Center so the kids could pick out some goodies. Brayden got some playing cards and the girls picked out a small stuffed animal. Madison got a crow and Chloe picked out a Skunk. lol. They are cute!
The Arches was a lot of fun. We hiked all over, and packed Chloe, and the kids had a blast. We didn't go on any hike over 2 miles just because the kids, heat exchaustion, and Chloe, but one of these times when they get older we will. Luckily, there is still a lot to do, see and hike to without hiking over that 2 mile mark. lol.
We went to lots of places, too many pictures to post. lol. But I can't wait to scrap them!
That night we barbecued with Mom and Brian again. Ate some yummy chicken and rang in Madison's birthday with cupcakes. It was a lot of fun.
Then early Sunday morning Chloe woke up sick and threw up. Luckily it was the last day of our trip. We were originally planning on going to the Needles but figured we best take it easy because of Chloe.
She did start feeling better so as we drove out towards home, we stopped at a rock bed with Kim and Steve and their kids first. We played and found lots of collectible rocks and fossils before leaving.
The rock bed we found lots of smooth rocks and collectibles.
It was a long drive back home because Chloe was sick and threw up several times, but we made it back and can't wait to go again.
If you go, make sure you pick up the annual pass to Canyonlands, Arches and Dead Horse point, it's only $20.00, otherwise you pay $30.00, $10.00 each instead. LOL. Yes, we learned the hard way. Oh well, next time. :)
