Brayden and I had our Optometrist appointment yesterday and I figured that since Madison was going to be starting Kindergarten in the fall that I might as well get her eyes checked when we do. So I called and asked if I could get her an appointment with our appointment. They said yes, so we were off to our appointment.
Brayden's eyes where checked first, he still a little nearsighted but doesn't need glasses. He did say that if he ever complains about getting a headache when he reads, that he might want reading glasses. In the two years of Brayden being a little nearsighted, he's never complained.
My eyes fluctuate between two different prescriptions. How funny is that. One year I get better eyes, and then the next year, they worsen a little, and then the next year, they are better again. Anyway, I got me some new glasses because that last time I got me glasses was over 4 years ago. Fun. I only wear them at night though.
Next was Madison's turn. As he started checking her eyes and having her do the left eye and right eye deal, it was determined that she couldn't see clearly out of her left eye. Basically, she needs glasses. He said that her right eye has been over compensating for her left eye not seeing clear, so when she looks with two eyes, she hasn't ever had a problem seeing far away or near. She too is nearsighted like Brayden. He also said that because she is nearsighted when she looks at things close up, her right eye works ever harder than it does when she looks far away. Does that make sense? He had me looks through some lenses that would give me the idea of what she can see and how clear it is. First he showed me what she sees with two eyes. I could see, but it wasn't as clear or sharp as it should be. Then with her right eye it looks like it does with two eyes... because her right eye overcompensates to make up for what her left eye can't see. Then with her left eye, wow, poor thing, you can't see anything really. It basically looks like what I could see far away without my contacts. I mentioned that at her 5 year Well Child check-up that when they did the eye test they said she was fine. He said the reason behind that is because even when she covers her right eye to look through her left eye, she peaks with her right eye to see. lol. She's never not known not to do that since she has always done that to see correctly. Makes sense.
Well, we've tried on some glasses for her, found some really cute ones, and have talked up the idea of wearing glasses so much, how she'll be like her daddy, she's actually excited to get them. We get to pick them up in a week. I'll definitely take some pictures of her with her new glasses, and post them then.
Another interesting thing is how both Brayden and Madison are nearsighted, and both Devin and I are farsighted.

That's so cute that y'all talked it up so much that she is excited! Such a good mommy and daddy. :-)
I can't wait to see pictures!
I read your blog to Josh and he was explaining everything that was happening with Madison's eyes before I even finished, it was kind of fun. I am excited to see her cute glasses!
